The Strong Ones - Who is Strong To You?
Submission Request! Read below for the details - but note the deadline is Mother's Day!
I initially got this idea from my dear friend, Teresa. She is one of the strong ones. This past year she had a nasty breast cancer scare which after 2 surgeries (goodbye left and goodbye right - but has since had reconstructive surgery) is fortunately NOW cancer free, but it was a trial and a half. Before that, years ago, her husband had a scare with cancer as well. Then there's my mom. And my grandma before her. And my grandpa. And even Greg's dad. We've all had something horrific happen in our lives - whether it be us personally or someone close to us. And it's not just limited to cancer. It could be any number of things.
I continue to be inspired by those who face adversity and choose to fight it. You know what I'm talking about, right? Those who rather than be defeated choose to fight it with every fiber of their bodies. Those who don't necessarily welcome it (I mean really, who would), but face it head on.
They are the strong ones.
Life is hard. It's so hard.
We will all at some point face a difficult trial and will be faced with the challenge of "how do I handle this? What now? Why me? And how can I fight it? Do I have the energy to get through this? Am I strong enough? Can I do this hard thing which has been placed before me?"
I often wonder this about myself. Like in my mom's circumstance, would I be as strong as her? Would I be able to make the necessary changes? Would I face it head on, or would I wallow in self pity? It's hard to say. I'd like to think I'd be strong enough, and handle it well, but honestly, I don't know. I do know that when my mom was first diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer that I pulled away pretty much from everyone. I withdrew. Hid. Stopped talking. to. everyone. I was in pain, and I wasn't even in my mom's shoes.
But she continues to blow me away EVERY stinking day.
She is strong.
There are moments when I see and even hear the pain in her voice, but for the most part she's shown me all the traits of a fighter...of being a strong one.
With Mother's Day coming up, I'd like to set a goal for all of us. Please share your stories of the "strong ones" in your life. This can be your very own personal story or of someone you know and love.
We all need inspiration from time to time. Hearing how others have persevered in times of struggle can be so encouraging and motivating when we feel weak.
We women need to stick together. We have each other. We can "lift" each other. And that's what I am hoping by sharing OUR stories...we do.
Please email me your stories along with one or two pictures to email@example.com. That's me!
I'll be sharing them on the blog and in social over the weeks to come leading up to Mother's Day.
And then out of all the entries I received I will randomly choose a name/contributor and will send a special gift.
I can't wait to read your stories!
